Dog Grooming - Level One
Many professional groomers divide dog grooming into two types or two levels. Level one is considered to be the easier, basic maintenance level. Level two is somewhat more demanding and sometimes challenging level. This type of grooming consists of a bath and a more detailed check such as the manner in which to style the coat.
Most pet owners can easily do level one grooming themselves, and most of them actually prefer to do level one grooming on their own. Doing the grooming themselves gives them a great opportunity to share some time with their dogs and bond with them. Level two, one the other hand, can prove to be a little more difficult that most dog owners prefer to delegate the job to professional groomers. Let's take a closer look at what level one grooming entails.
Level one grooming is what is considered maintenance grooming. This is something that you should do at least every other day in order to keep your dog looking healthy and in good condition. This type of grooming involves combing, brushing, teeth cleaning, clipping the tips of toenails, and checking the body for any change. Although most pet owners do this level of grooming once a week, it is advisable to administer this procedure at least twice a week.
Level one type of grooming usually consists of taking the following steps:
1. All over brushing or combing.
2. Massaging the coat to stimulate the skin. This is also a good way to check for any bumps, lumps, rashes, sores, and other changes to the skin.

3. Checking the eyes and ears.
4. Brushing or wiping teeth.
5. Checking the coat for fleas as well as tangles by doing a quick run through with a flea comb.
6. Wiping down the eyes and entire face using a moist, clean washcloth. Applying eye drops as often as necessary for breeds that's susceptible to dry eyes.
7. Clipping off toenail tips as often as necessary and checking for each paw at the same time.
8. Keeping track of what you did and how your pet looked and behaved.
9. Don't forget his treat for being such a well behaved dog!
